China Through Rose Colored Glasses, Clearly

Posted by Dan Harris on February 28, 2006 at 07:48 AM

So within just a few hours of posting on China's darkside, I come across this Business Week article, entitled, "It's Not So Tough in China," that paints a very optimistic picture of China business for U.S. companies by those who ought to know best: U.S. companies in China.  This article nicely synthesizes the recent AmCham survey of U.S. businesses.  We previously referred to this survey in our post, "Lies, Damn Lies, Statistics, and Making Lots of Money in China, but the Business Week article both comes at such an opportune time and does such a good job of teasing out the meaning of that survey that it bears mention.

Perhaps it really does come down to what James Na said in his post accusing ChinaLawBlog of excessive bullishness:

But then again, those who engage primarily in civil/business side of China tend to be so [bullish] while those who deal in security or human rights issues tend to be more cautious (I count myself in the latter category).

We take the business side.
